For weather related safety reasons, the
decision has been made to cancel the afternoon rocket-launching
portion of the picnic. THE PICNIC ITSELF IS STILL BEING HELD.
Schedule is now: picnic runs from 5-8pm,
grilling will start around 6pm with food ready shortly thereafter,
door prizes will be drawn somewhere around 7 or 7:30pm, people are
welcome to stay as late as they want (but we're guessing that most
will dash home for some A/C)
The weather forecast for Saturday afternoon is
for strong sunshine, a high temperature of 98 degrees, and winds
from the SSW at 15+ mph. An excessive heat watch is in effect.
For those coming to the picnic, please plan accordingly.
Recommended that you bring a hat, sunscreen, lots of water to drink,
chairs to sit in, and a pop-up shade canopy (if you own one).
AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH MEANS THAT A PROLONGED
PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT
TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A DANGEROUS
SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE.
