Nice way to wrap up the year! Light winds, above
freezing temps, and snow that wasn't too deep. Including
the Great Annual Snowball Fight drag race, I attempted 9
flights. Things went wrong with most of them, but it was
still lots of fun; I had CATO's, a core sample, stripped
recovery mechanisms, a lost rocket, etc. I had two (2!)
nominal flights with ignition, flight, ejection, and
damage-free recovery, so the day wasn't a total loss,
and it's always good to see everyone.
Lesson reaffirmed - don't fly small white rockets on
big motors with snow cover and a foggy ceiling unless
you're making a sacrifice to the rocket gods. I think my
continually less mean Mean Machine will be a couple
inches shorter when next it flies, the third or fourth
time that it's been shrunken.
I think that there were about 40 flights before the
range closed a little after 1. Thanks to Neal for the
motor loan, thanks to Aaron for the lost casing find. I
owe you guys.
