June 2011 launch report (6/25/2011)

On Saturday, June 25, MASA held its regular monthly launch at the sod fields near Nowthen.  The day was cooler than expected, with an annoying breeze out of the south.

Congratulations to Craig Bowman on his successful Level 1 high power certification.  Craig flew a PML X-Caliber on an H123.

Congratulations to Kent Peterson on his successful Level 2 high power certification.  Kent flew a LOC Bruiser on a J350.

Theme:  Patriotic Rockets

The theme of this launch was "patriotic rockets".  Quite a few Patriots and various red-white-and-blue rockets took to the skies.

FUN Contest:   Spot Landing

A target "spot" was placed on the next sod field north from the launch range.  Anyone could enter this contest with any rocket flying on any size motor. The goal was to have your rocket land as close to this target as possible (distance was measured from the center of the target to the tip of your nose cone). You could make as many attempts as you like, but you had to declare each attempt by writing "spot landing" on your flight card before you launch!

Results of the Spot Landing Contest

Youth

  1. Lucas Kramer, 58' 9" - wins a $5 Fleet Farm gift card, and a Custom "Game Over" rocket kit
  2. Hunter Anderson, 68' 5" - wins an Estes "MiTi" rocket kit

Adult

  2. Stuart Lenz, 98' 11" - wins a $5 Fleet Farm gift card, and an Estes "Gauchito" kit
  3. Dave Schaffhausen, 100' 6" - wins an Estes "MiTi" rocket kit
